Today I want to talk to you about something cool. We live close to the Appalachian Trail, which is about 2200 miles.
I looked it up, it’s 2,190 miles the full way, and they call the people that walk the entire thing in a year – thru-hikers.
Now, Jason, one of our coaches, was a thru-hiker. He’s hiked the entire Appalachian Trail, and he did it all at once.
In order to hike the Appalachian Trail, you have to get yourself physically trained, you have to be in shape.
The recommended time for it is about six months, just physical training to get ready for it, not to mention all: the gear prep, planning out the route, when you’re going to take your breaks, when you’re going to get new shoes, stocking up on provisions – those kinds of things.
There’s a whole sort of culture out there, but it is dangerous to do it without proper planning. You’ve got to be ready for all kinds of weather: snow, rain. You’ve got to have the proper planning to hike the trail.
