Lynn and I went out for a pizza last Tuesday. We were planning on eating at the restaurant, but they were only doing takeout.
The sign on the door said, “Please be patient, we are short staffed at the moment.” Maybe you’ve seen similar signs.
All my clients and most of the business owners that I speak with are looking for employees. The common complaint that I hear is “I can’t seem to find any good help.”
Yes, hiring great people should be a priority. Let’s also remember the people that are already working.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the unemployment rate for July was 5.4%. That means that 94.4% of those eligible to work are working.
The restaurant workers were polite and were working hard-answering the phone, taking orders, accepting payments, making pizzas, etc. Medical professionals are working to keep us healthy.
Fire, Police, and Rescue workers are working to keep us safe. Factory workers are working to make vehicles, clothing, and other things we want and need.
Plumbers, electricians, and other technicians are working to make us more comfortable. And the list goes on.
Monday is Labor Day-a day set aside to honor workers. Get up and go thank a worker on Labor Day, and every other day.
You may get Labor Day as a holiday, but you’ll likely find workers where they usually are-on the job working to make the world a better place for you.
