attract people you deserve

When he was first in business, my friend and mentor Brad Sugars complained to his father, “I just can’t seem to find any good help”.

Brad’s dad was having none of it and replied, “Brad, you get the people you deserve”.

What Brad’s father understood was that for your company to get better, you must first get better yourself.

This might be hard to take. If you are not attracting the people you want, take a hard look in the mirror.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

• What’s your vision?

• Does it enroll and inspire the kind of people you want?

• What’s your common goal?

• Does it engage your team in your mission?

• Are they all pulling in the same direction?

• What’s your culture?

• Is it defined, written, and talked about at least weekly?
