Hey there, hope you’re having a fantastic week. I have to admit that I’m not much like reality TV shows, but I do enjoy one of them.
I enjoy “The Voice,” and if you’re not familiar with “The Voice,” the premise is that there are four coaches.
The people who come to audition, in other words, come out and sing, but the coaches or the people who decide who’s going to move forward in the reality show are turned around, so they cannot see the people.
They cannot be influenced by what they look like, so they judge them strictly on their voice, and whether they have potential, and the coaches make teams, and then they compete against each other.
They coach the people through the program until, finally one person is named “The Voice”.
They get a recording contract and a big prize. And it’s really good.
So the questions are why do people like shows like “The Voice”, and why do people like “The Voice” in particular?
Number one, it’s dramatic!
Whether we like it or not, we love drama. Now, you say in business, most of the time we’re taking the drama out, but there are some elements of drama that are good for business, particularly around sales and presenting.
Number two, it’s musical. We just love music. We love to be entertained.
Number three, it reaches our emotions. These are basically unknown people who go through a process and have a chance.
They’re the ultimate underdog to become the star. It taps into that, that dream, the dream we have of being a Cinderella or a rockstar or an athlete, or whatever it is your dream is, it taps into that.
We get to watch people getting better.
